I’m writing this in the hope that someone out there will agree with me when it comes to discussing my hate for TOMS. We live in a modern society where Chinese people have invented the likes of the iPad, 3D television and hybrid cars, so the simple question is why are we suddenly settling with ourselves in the fashion industry for shoes that look like an Arabian desert man would wear selling magic beans on the side of the road? I am not blind to the simple reason why these shoes were made, (for every pair someone buys another child from across the world will gain a free pair) but when it comes to their simple knowledge of understanding that there are other countries out there that are much more superior to theirs, thanks to the fine advancement in technology and the excellent provision of sources we have to work from, why on earth would we give them shoes that are not much different from their own? It’s like a slap in the face to them, they know we could do better, and ultimately we know could do better. This over exaggerated excitement in this campaign is so entirely uneccessary, we could give these people so much more, and as for us, we could do ourselves a favour and wear something a little more aesthetically appealing. 20 years ago we would never dream of wearing something like these shoes, this also goes along with fashion trends and how for some time, wearing a Poncho was the coolest thing since Presley sported the flares, but now when we see someone wearing one we automatically assume that they’re just a bit ‘slow’ with the times, or simply, that they’re just Mexican. This baffles me. So, TOMS, great idea, but no thanks.
